[ The Cincinnati Fantasy Group's home page ]

Links that have been added to this page, or whose addresses have changed, within the previous 28 days, are respectively marked as [new] or [upd (updated)]. These markers darken and fade as their newness wears off.

(If you acquired a bookmark elsewhere for a link that is marked as [upd] here, check the original to be sure the address is accurate. If you acquired the original here, always replace it with the update.)

A few recent requests have made it necessary to actually think through our criteria for adding links on this page, rather than simply continuing to run the process on what has amounted to instinct. So now we have a Policy [*a party favor wheezes and flutters; confetti showers down*], and a simple one at that: you'll find links to information about particular interest source materials (e.g., Star Trek & Babylon 5 episode guides) on this page -- but not to particular interest groups (Trek/B5 cons or clubs).

We wish subfans well in their fixation. We wish them personal joy of it. But we also wish they'd spend more of their time sharing interests -- theirs and ours -- with genfandom. To the benefit of both.

Science Fiction Fandom:

Worldcons and Bids

Standing Worldcons:
  • Interaction: The 63rd World Science Fiction Convention; Thursday, August 4th through Monday, August 8th, 2005, in Glasgow, Scotland (UK).
  • LAcon IV: The 64th World Science Fiction Convention; Thursday, August 23rd through Monday, August 27th, 2006, in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Nippon 2007: The 65th World Science Fiction Convention; Thursday, August 30th through Monday, September 3rd, 2007, in Yokohama, Japan.
Worldcon Bids (voted on at the Worldcon 3 years preceding):
NASFiC Bids (voted on at the Worldcon 2 years preceding):
Past Worldcons:
In keeping with the spirit, the above set of worldcon links (completely modified in the interim) was originally "pirated" from the Bucconeer site.  Surely they'll not make us dance the floorless hornpipe for a bit of innocent borrowin', eh, Jim lad...?

And by all means visit the World Science Fiction Society / Worldcon [Official] site for a look at the complete WSFS rules, plus information about the Hugo awards/winners and previous Worldcon dates, venues and guests.

A CFG FACT: Four of the nine Aussiecon Three executive board members were also active Cincinnati Fantasy Group members.  [We're everywhere...]

Regional Cons

A flock of midwestern (more or less) conventions have web pages/sites:

--As do many near-midwestern (or popular-with-midwestern-fen, or because-we-say-so-that's-why) conventions:
We'll be adding con links as we find them (and the time...). Meanwhile, you might want to take a look at the SF-Lovers list of cons around the world and the Stilyagi Air Corps links to cons.

Fannish Resources

As Inspector Harry Callahan very nearly said, "A fan's got to know his limitations." Though Your Linkmeister has been reading this stuff for mumblety-ump years now, he has never been particularly Fannish -- at least, not in the Orthodox sense. Which has made it a bit difficult for him to properly furnish this little corner of the linkset. Fortunately, the CFG's very own Bill Bowers has put together an astounding set of links "aimed at providing a concise entry point for fannish fans newly on line." Containing as it does all but one of the (pitifully few) links previously found in this section -- and a good deal more besides -- YL presents it as a much superior one-stop-shopping solution to all your fannish fandom needs.
  • FanBasic 101: "101 (more-or-less) Trees in The Enchanted e-Jungle"

  • Okay, not literally one-stop, though fanac.org (the Florida Association for Nucleation And Conventions) is listed among Bowers' links. We've broken it out here because everyone interested in fandom (as opposed to merely consuming and obsessing over source materials) should have a look at -- and consider becoming a part of -- their Fan History Project.

Series TV Information

Upcoming epidode guides/lists [WARNING: SOME MAY HAVE SPOILERS] are available for the following shows:

Additional episode guides to some of the preceding active shows, and to most every science fiction/fantasy show currently running on American TV (plus more that aren't, or didn't, or weren't SF then or now) can be found through Ultimate TV's Ultimate TV Show List, or more directly through its science fiction sublist.

And now that you know exactly when that next episode of <program_name_here> will be shown, you might want to compare your VCR's time setting to the U.S. Naval Observatory Master Clock.

Recent versions usually handle all current flavors of Director and Flash enhancement as well.

  • Batman and Robin may not be the last entry in the franchise after all.
  • City of Angels flew off with the top box office spot for its first two weeks.
  • Contact will be the last Carl Sagan novel to be translated to film.
  • Event Horizon has popped back through the quantum fluctuation wormhole.
  • Fallen is rather more theosophiction than science fiction -- but what a premise! Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "bad touch"...
  • With the imminent release of The Fellowship of the Ring, we'll discover whether one of our members was right to fear that no LotR movie can satisfy everyone's expectations...
  • The Fifth Element is basically a French comic book in multimedia -- but the production design is spectacular.
  • Godzilla is back -- back -- 'way back...
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone opened on one of every eight theater screens in the entire country!
  • Lost in Space has been found -- by Hollywood. But will home video customers do likewise?
  • The Lost World: Jurassic Park If we just stay quiet and don't move, maybe it will go awa
  • Mars Attacks! -- and "two out of three...ain't bad!"
  • The One did two or three weeks of decent business...
  • The Phantom almost clicks...
  • The Postman looks like it might-- Oops! I blinked! (And Kevin, congrats on that Razzies sweep...)
  • The Relic's site is becoming one...
  • The Sixth Sense made over $100M in just its first three weeks.
  • Thufferin' thuccotash! How did we manage to skip Space Jam? Completely implausible, by design -- and lots of fun. Kick butt Tweety!
  • Sphere had a decent opening weekend...
  • Star Trek: First Contact is probably approaching its gazillionth contact...
  • Starship Troopers...with a few revisions that Mr. Heinlein no doubt penciled in but somehow never quite got around to submitting...
  • Warriors of Virtue
  • The Wizard of Oz rerelease is accompanied by a nice web site, with lots of cool downloadables.

Authors' Web Pages/Sites

Links to many and varied authors' web sites (some authorized or self-maintained, others "shrines" [fan-created & -maintained]) can be found at Tor Books' main page (an astounding collection), Baen Books' "Bug an Author Link Page," and Del Rey Books' "Online Resources by or about Del Rey Authors" page.

More are available at Yahoo! -- Arts:Humanities:Literature:Genres:Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror:Authors.

As this page continues to sprout new links, it's become clear that several of the major categories must eventually be broken out into separate pages. When that happens, we'll more than likely take the opportunity to establish a page of direct links to authors' sites. Meanwhile, we encourage you to check out the home pages of

who -- gosh, what a coincidence! -- just happen to be members (or ‡ Very Good Friends, at least) of the Cincinnati Fantasy Group.

The CFG Web Geek begs your gracious and generous assistance:

It's tough enough just to get a new site up and running; "as planned" is well outside the range of rational expectation.  There is entirely too much Neat Stuff out there to keep track of, and doubtless we've missed one or two dozen hundred thousand goodies, so if you spot something (especially something "completely different") that isn't included here, please take the time to click the appropriate =[Report errors/suggest additions]= email link and send the URL to the CFG Web Geek.  Who thanks you profusely.  And who also, as he does have a life (however small and pathetic) beyond the care and maintenance of this site and thus cannot check every link every day, will be most grateful for all reports of =[  broken ]= ones.  Or any other =[ errors ]= you might spot along the way.
